Stomp Out Bullying
Rhetorical Analysis Essay

The article Bullying and Suicide, states that “suicide is the leading cause of death among young people and bully-victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims.” (Bullying and suicide, Bullying Statistics, July 07, 2015,  Bullying and Suicide – Bullying Statistics, October 10, 2021) I know for a fact that people didn’t see bullying as an actual problem but in all reality, bullying is what is destroying our generation. More than half of the young kids that commit suicide are due to the fact that they are bullied. There are thousands of kids who stay home because they are scared of being bullied. School is supposed to be a safe place for kids but yet no one seems to care, or the people who do care their hands are tied so to speak. Options to help those in need are usually very limited. If another child sees a classmate getting bullies then more times than do not help the bullied child due to fear of getting bullied/hurt themselves. Even when a bullied child does speak out to an adult they sometimes take it as they are being too sensitive, or the adult does not realize the severity of the situation.

On the website Stomp out Bullying they want to build awareness about bullying. Stomp Out Bullying is a pretty simple and very informative website. The website is very easy to navigate through, they have an area for the kids, the parents, and the teachers to go through to get more information on warning signs or what to do to help the ones being bullied. Stomp Out bullying tries to reach out to all communities, schools, teachers, and parents to help them spread awareness. At the beginning of the website, they address multiple types of different communities such as the LGBTQIA+, which helps indicate they are open to helping anyone no matter who they are. That the help is not limited to one specific demographic. They have a help chat line where anyone can talk to someone about either what they went through, or maybe even an adult trying to figure out how to help loved ones in need.

This website is mainly for people who need more information or who are wanting to help with the situation. Parents and Educators can use this website to help understand what their child(ren) or students may be thinking or even going through. At the beginning of the website, it lists all of the things that someone could possibly bully someone else about, which draws in the people who get bullied for those reasons.

On the website, they also include a live chat box for anyone that needs to talk to a live person for help. When it comes to this particular website, I think the people that it would exclude, would be people who do not see bullying as a major issue, or the ones that can't understand how big of a problem bullying actually is. People who are willing to help our generation are definitely willing to look at this website or people who are ready to come out and tell their stories.

Stomp Out Bullying is a very easy and very convenient website. It's quite easy to use. They have lots of pictures and information on their front page and they have drop-down arrows with multiple links for other pages. On the front page, there is an introduction video to explain what they are and who they are. At the bottom of the page include stories from multiple people helping to describe what their website is and what they are all about. Most people would be able to use this website because of how accessible and organized the website is.

When you go to the website the first thing you’ll see in this picture. It seems to have multiple kids that may have suffered from bullying themselves.

At the bottom of the book, it says “ Join The class of upstanders” upstanders definition is a person who speaks or acts in support of an individual or cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being attacked or bullied. That’s one strategy they used to draw someone in, is the cool name you would get if you were to help stop bullying. They also offer a whole page to the parents to help them understand anything they have concerns about for their kids. They even have a page dedicated to educators on this page they offer a kit to help them when it comes to preventing bullying.

When the website uses people’s stories, they are using the rhetorical appeal Pathos, because they are appealing to the reader’s emotions. When they use celebrities in their videos about who they are, what they do, they are using the rhetorical appeal of Ethos because they are using people we may look up to in order to try to persuade us to help. At the beginning of the website, they add all the things that kids get bullied for and that is logos because it is adding statistics in there to draw in the audience's attention.

That picture states how many people have committed to helping them stop bullying everywhere. I believe they have made a change because the stories that the people have told, and people have seen on the website have had their lives changed because of Stomp Out Bullying. Quite a few celebrities have been supporting their cause and they have become so successful in the process. They are doing their best to make a difference in so many kids’ lives. That is the number of people that have taken a stand against bullying and that’s a pretty large number.

On the website they talk little about someone who used to be a panelist with them; her name is Sarah Mcbride. Sarah Mcbride is the first transgender person in State Senate. This is a little short video about her campaign for the state senate.

Sarah McBride Is 1st Transgender Person on State Senate

Sarah may have been inspired to run for senate when she was been working for Stomp Out Bullying. Working for Stomp Out Bullying she was working with kids who were struggling with coming out or just being bullied for being transgender. So maybe her working with these kids made her want to do something big that the whole world would have no choice but to see her and accept her. What Sarah Mcbrdoe did was a courageous thing to do, what she did will be going down history. Sarah basically showed all other transgenders that they too can stand up, be who they are and be who they are no matter what anyone else says.

On October 5, 2020, The Billboard joins Stomp Out Bullying for the world bullying prevention day. In the video below there are quite a few celebrities like the chain smokers who are taking the time to call an end to bullying.

Billboard Joins STOMP Out Bullying for World Day of Bullying Prevention 2018 - YouTube

The Billboard supports what Stomp Out Bullying is doing because in the article, Liam Payne, Ally Brooke, The Chainsmokers and More Call to End Bullying For World Day Of Bullying Prevent, It states that “ But with the help of those wanting to spread messages of love, hopefully, one day schools around the globe will be free of bullying. This is what STOMP Out Bullying aims to do daily, but particularly on Oct. 1: World Day of Bullying Prevention.” ( Weatherby, Taylor, Bill Board, October 1, 2020, Liam Payne, Ally Brooke, The Chainsmokers and More Call to End Bullying For World Day Of Bullying Prevention)

October is actually prevention of bullying awareness month which started on October 4, 2021, and a lot of celebrities and quite a few other organizations support this month and Stomp Out Bullying. The link below will take you to their official website page that has a couple of explaining videos on this month.

Celebrity World Bullying Prevention Month Videos 2021 | STOMP Out Bullying™

Celebrities talking about bullying and taking a stand against it will help get the word out a lot faster. What I mean by this is that celebrities have way more connections so it is great to have that kind of community to help and stop what is really affecting people today.

Most of the time can really determine when things happen like when it comes to dinosaurs becoming extinct. That time was a specific time but yet bullying has been happening for years and we may have not even noticed it. So, slaves were bullied, they were beaten half to death if not beaten to death. They were treated like total crap and dehumanized. Women for a generation were told they belonged in the kitchen and that they could never get anywhere in life because they were stupid. Both of these historical things lead up to today. Since, we cant have slaves anymore or degrade women into a kitchen, they picked things like transgender people or by the way someone dressed. It seems as though people have to nick pick at everything and if it doesn’t go their way they will just find something else. Bullying sadly is something that just won’t go away with a snap of a finger. It takes time and commitment. “Commitment means time, energy, and money. Nothing more and nothing less. Without it your vision and writing go nowhere.” (Judith Briles.)

Writing Project # 5 Rhetorical Analysis

Draft

Most of your school years you go through not thinking about the people around you and maybe what they go through. For example, they could be being bullied will either at home or even at school. On the website Stomp out Bullying they try to help build up awareness about bullying whether it’s cyberbullying or physical bullying. They raise money and ask people to help them spread awareness about bullying by going to schools and talking to the students and teachers. Stomp Out Bullying’s overall purpose is to draw you in to help them spread this awareness, to help kids who are struggling today because of being bullied.

To me, I feel they are globalizing their website but I know that is not real so I believe that the audience invoked is anyone who may have been bullied. Or even maybe the people who see it as a problem too or maybe the parents that are struggling now because their kids are being bullied also. At the being of their website, they list all of the things that someone could possibly bully someone else which draws in the people who get bullied for those reasons. Purpose Analysis

Final Draft

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the owners of Apple company, had started their making of apple technology inside Steve Jobs' dad's garage. Jobs and Wozniak went from a tiny little garage, to having their very own multi-million dollar company. The company is known for making various kinds of technology that changes the world day by day. After quite a few of their technology inventions being sold they were becoming more and more known for their products. With how advanced and easy to use their technology was, more people all over the world wanted to have one of their products. Jobs and Wozniak never disappointed any of their customers, because everytime they would create a new Apple product it would be better than the last. Which entice people want to buy it even more. The Apple company comes out with more advanced technology at a faster rate, it drives up sales at an alarming rate because people are wanting the next best thing and to keep up with the times and trends When using a strategy like this it has helped them become multimillionaires.

 iPhone 12 | Haystack | Apple

In this short advertisement for the IPhone 12 they set the scenery in the countryside. In this video they use a rancher to connect with their audience to convince them that their technology is the best for them. Ranchers are a big part of the world and they could lose their phones anywhere on that field and if they can use the Apple watch product to pinpoint their phones location, then I'm sure they would buy that type of technology. They get their audience excited everytime they make a new product, because everytime they do, it offers new features, colors, and sizes. They also compare the old product to the newer one, to show the differences. The Apple products offer so many different colors and have so many new features every time they come up with a new product. Which then gives the consumer more of a personalized product to what they desire. When watching the advertisement it's a bit confusing on why they have set the scenery in the countryside but that is what makes someone want to watch because it makes them curious.

I believe that one strategy that works is the one where they keep making products but each product is better than the last one in so many ways. This strategy when advertised makes people want to go out and buy their product. When they make new products with better features it really draws in the audience because everyone wants better. When they come up with something more advanced than what they have, they are going to want it because it's a better product. So for example in this advertisement video, they compare and contrast their iPhones in their advertisement.

Apple - Introducing iPhone 7 Official Trailer

In this iPhone commercial, it not only compares to the iPhone created before it,it also compares it to all the other iPhones created beyond the one after it. This is a sales/ advertisement strategy because of the fact people are going to want to get that product because of how good it is. It's like most people say out with the old and in with the new. If the new product comes with newer features or maybe now they get it in any color they choose. Then obviously the audience is going to be drawn in and they are going to want to purchase the newest product.

Apple has a tendency to change their products every everytime they make a new one. For example, in the picture we have the iPhone 12 series, now they aren't in the correct order but it goes iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 12 mini. You can definitely see the difference between each phone like the Iphone 12 and the max the cameras are different so the camera on the max may be better at taking pictures then the iPhone 12 is. Apple does an overall good job on connecting and understanding their audience by changing their products constantly really drags in the business. Apple works smarter not harder and it's worked because they went from a garage to a multi-million dollar industry.

Audience Analysis
Amazon

“ Nature never appeals to intelligence until habit and instinct are useless. There is no intelligence where there no need of change.” (H. G Wells) Amazon is one of the most used apps being used for online shopping. They have so many satisfied customers due to the fact that they have a wide variety of things people can order. Between being able to order things you could have only gotten either out of the state or even out of the country. Amazon provides various things for their customers but they also provide great opportunities for employees. Amazon gives out free mental healthcare and they pay 98% of your tuition while you work for them.

Amazon is an overall wonderful company. They have great services when it comes to people getting their packages on time. Having a wide variety of things for people to buy and not even have to go to their home to get that certain item. In this kind of situation during the pandemic, Amazon came in handy because of the fact that we couldn’t leave our homes. Considering how we can order our groceries, clothes, and other necessities on their website, it's fast and easy. Yes, we have to wait for it but it is worth it in the end. Their security when it comes to delivering our packages is great, especially when they take the picture of the customer’s package on the porch that way we know it’s there.

Although Amazon may be good in the customer’s eyes, Amazon has had accusations of employee harassment. Although most of the accusations have never been proven. From the experience of working in an Amazon warehouse, they do have expectations for their employees. Most people have either quit or gotten fired due to the fact that some people can’t handle their fast pace and overwhelming environment. It is very hard to have a life outside of work, especially working at amazon. You are working 24-7 and you may have a lot over time but in the end, it’s worth the money. Overall, Amazon just works their employees very hard and some people are made for it and some people aren’t made for it.

Amazon overall is made for most and everyone when it comes to either working for them or just being their customer. Amazon offers most jobs to everyone, to a certain extent, such as being a delivery driver. You must be minimum of 21 years old. Or when it comes to a higher-up job in the company, you must have a degree to get a job like that.  When it comes to the customer and ordering things off the Amazon app, there are not really any issues with any customers using the app. It is really accessible and user-friendly for everyone. Unless, in certain situations, if you live in the boondocks of nowhere, for example like Tonopah, Az. The only thing Amazon does not deliver to Tonopah is the groceries. So, for the people that live far out in Arizona Amazon may not deliver your groceries to you.

An overall view of Amazon is that it’s a great app to use when needing to get groceries delivered or any other necessities. The pandemic we went through not too long ago is a perfect example of how great this app is, because of the fact that more and more people ordered more and more stuff to be shipped to their homes. Remember though, to make sure you don’t live too far and they will deliver your groceries out to your home. Amazon is a great company all around they support everyone and anyone of any color or who they choose to be Amazon is great with the communities they are in.

Context Analysis

Snapchat

“Social Media isn’t fad, it’s a fundamental shift in the way we communicate,” (Erik Qualman). There’s a lot of mixed feelings about social media, it’s good, bad, or it’s just in the middle of both good and bad.  Although everyone has their own opinions about social media we can all agree that we have come a long way when it comes to communicating through social media. We talk to friends and family, create stories or even put our political thoughts on social media. Communication started with a caveman’s first words or the pictures they would draw on the wall in the cave to tell stories. We can all agree that communication has come a long way.

There are so many popular social media, it too many to count, but to me, the most used social media is Facebook and Snapchat. I want to talk about Snapchat because for me growing up, it has been the most used social media in my generation. Snapchat is multimedia messaging created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown. When using Snapchat to communicate you can not only message people, you can send videos and pictures and add to the videos and pictures things like filters, stickers, texts, effects, and even drawings. Snapchat has created texting into a fun and creative way of communication. Anyone around the world can use it because they have it programmed where you can choose your own language.

had a difficult time trying to figure out 5 ways Snapchat shapes instances of communication. In the article, 5 Ways Snapchat Will Redefine Workplace Communication, 5 Ways Snapchat Will Redefine Workplace Communication | Inc.com the article describes how snapchat has a positive effect on a workplace and how it will soon be defined. Here's a short summary of what the article is about: Snapchat has created the urgency to reply back to emails inside the Generation Z teenagers due to the fact that Snapchat has a time limit on when you can see a message so this makes the Generation Z teenagers be faster at messaging people back in emails. Snapchat has created a place where users can be their true selves and to express themselves in any way they want. Snapchat allows people to tell stories with their pictures by adding all kinds of drawings or stickers. They offer companies to be able to have a 10 second to even minute to advertise their products nationally. Nowadays you can communicate through videos, that's what most people do nowadays and they have been doing it in even more creative ways. Jenkins, Ryan. “5 Ways Snapchat Will Redifine Workplace Commucation.” Inc.com. Published 01 Febuary 2016. Acessed 13 September 2021.

Snapchat has defined communication in the workplace and with our family and friends in so many ways. We can send pictures and videos with different filters, little stickers, drawings and even text messages in the videos and pictures. Companies have new creative and accessible ways of advertising their products that  really catch the attention of their customers. When talking to your friends and family there are so many ways to be fun and creative when telling them stuff. I believe that for little kids this may be a great way for them to communicate with their family and friends. Overall, snapchat has made it possible for a lot of people to communicate in an efficient and very creative way.

Now even though it is fun to use snapchat some people may not be able to use it for example someone who is blind would not be able to use this app. Someone who is paralyzed may not be able to use this app. Other than those two disabilities the app is very user friendly. and it doesn't cost a single penny. It is free to all people on all kinds of phones and for all kinds of ages, even people in different countries. Snapchat helps people be more creative when we are telling someone a story or even simply just telling them about how our day went. Snapchat helps people communicate in more  creative ways and there have been studies showing that when people are more creative it increases their happiness.

I believe that snapchat is a very useful tool. It's very easy, efficient and very fun to use when communicating. Snapchat gives the opportunity to be creative when telling stories just through a picture or video. It helps people be able to actually discover our true identity through the way we are communicating with this app. I love the fact that's it's completely free for everyone and how easy it is to use. Snapchat takes communication to a whole other level with its way of allowing its users to be creative and tell a story through their picture or video. Overall snapchat provides a great way to keep up with our family friends it really allows to make sure our family is there for every event in our lives when they can't be their.

Literacy Narrative

Final Draft Submission

“ Monsters don’t always lurk in the dark. Sometimes they hide in plain sight,” (Belle Aurora). Of course, all my monsters were in plain sight but I was in the dark. I was the one hiding from the world. My writing journey started with verbal abuse from my mom and her boyfriends. Then being sexually abused by my own brother and on top of all of it, I was bullied throughout my school’s history. Having a journal was my only escape. Just like the kids in Narnia, I too wanted to escape the horrible things happening in the real world, and I would imagine myself fighting back and being happy for once. Writing for me was a gateway out of this world, away from all the pain I had to endure in my childhood. Writing was a whole different world for me. It was an escape from all of reality, to feel safe, and I used my words to cry instead of crying out loud.

In most crime movies or shows, you’ll see kids drawing out their traumas but for me when it came to my trauma I would write as if I was telling someone my life story. I believed my story, if ever published, could help millions of people who have suffered from any traumas. “The act of thinking about an experience, as well as expressing emotions, seems to be important. In this way, writing helps people to organize thoughts and give meaning to a traumatic experience. Or the process of writing may enable them to learn to better regulate their emotions.” “Writing about Emotions May Ease Stress and Trauma.” Harvard Health, 11 Oct. 2011. Writing helps me belittle my emotions now. How does belittling my emotions help me by getting rid of my PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Writing in my journal would give me the perspective that maybe I was writing as if it was going to be published for an audience. Believing that one day someone was going to read this helped me cope because I felt as if I was talking to someone and they were talking back. Maybe even help me in the future to come out and tell someone about what was happening. I would hope that when, or if someone else has been through the same life situation, that it would help them in the same way that it had helped me. Now, I have realized that only writing in that journal helped build my writing skills today but it helped me survive my childhood. I don’t know what I would have done if I had never had a journal to write in.

“We write, we make music, we draw pictures because we are listening for meaning, we are feeling for healing,” (Madeleine L’engle.) I had always hoped that deep inside someone was listening to all of my thoughts. Throughout the years I often thought that if I was to become a writer I would want my writing to be able to inspire people, or help them in any way they need it. All of those years of me being silent made me want to speak up for myself, but not just myself, but for the people that aren’t ready to speak up for themselves. I want to make a difference in people’s lives through my story. I want to make such a big impact on my readers that it makes them start a movement.

“If you want to change the world pick up your pen and write,” (Martin Luther). My past writing experiences have changed my perspective on writing, and what it is and what it could be. Think about it this way: if a lot of writers didn’t write just about celebrities or other gossip they could be talking about the truth of the world. I know that there are writers out there that do talk about the truths of the world. The thing is nowadays you see people talking about celebrities and all of the good things that are happening, but what about the darkness in the world. I feel as though, if we all talk about that stuff more people will have no choice but to listen, and maybe they can teach their kids about this.

I believe that with writing I can change millions of people and help people understand what is happening is not right no matter what. When I write, I want to be able to connect to someone's soul. I want them to be able to connect with me through my words, so then maybe this will help them stand up for themselves. I want my writing to be someone’s Narnia like my journals were to me, I want them to be able to escape from their issues with writing.

“ Monsters don’t always lurk in the dark. Sometimes they hide in plain sight,” Belle Aurora. Of course, all my monsters were in plain sight but I was in the dark I was the one hiding from the world. My writing journey started with the verbal abuse from my mom and her boyfriends, then being sexually abused by my own brother and on top of all of it, I was bullied throughout my school’s history. Having a journal was my only of escaping just like the kids in Narnia I wanted to escape the horrible things happening in the real world and I would imagine myself fighting back and being happy for once. Writing for me was a gateway out of this world, away from all the pain I had to endure in my childhood. The writing was a whole different world, for me it was an escape from all of reality, to feel safe, and I used my words to cry instead of crying out loud.

In most crime movies or shows, you’ll see kids drawing out their traumas but for me when it came to my trauma I would write as if I was telling someone my life story. I believed my story if ever published, could help millions of people who have suffered from any traumas. 2011, www.health.harvard.edu/healthbeat/writing-about-emotions-may-ease-stress-and-trauma#:~:text=The%20act%20of%20thinking%20about%20an%20experience%2C%20as,them%20to%20learn%20to%20better%20regulate%20their%20emotions. Writing helps me belittle my emotions now how does belittling my emotions help me by getting rid of my PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Writing in my journal would give me the perspective that maybe I was writing as if it was going to be published for an audience. Believing that one day someone was going to read this helped me cope because I felt as if I was talking to someone and they were talking back. Maybe even help me in the future to come out and tell someone about what was happening. I would hope that when or if someone else has been through the same life situation, that it would help them in the same way, that it had helped me. Now I have realized that only did writing in that journal help build my writing skills today but it helped me survive my child, I don’t know what I would have done if I had never had a journal to write in.

“We write, we make music, we draw pictures because we are listening for meaning, we are feeling for healing,” Madeleine L’engle. I had always hoped that done deep inside someone was listening to all of my thoughts. I had thought to myself throughout the years and I think if I was to become a writer I would want my writing to be able to inspire people or help them in any way they need it. All of those years of me being silent made me want to speak up for myself but not just myself but for the people that aren’t ready to speak up and fight for themselves. I want to make a difference in people’s lives through my story, I want to make such a big impact on my readers that it makes them start a movement.
