Writer's Journal # 5

"The task of a writer consists in being able to make something out of an idea.” Thomas Mann. Honestly, in high school, I wouldn’t really follow the tasks I would just go way off of the subject. I had so many ideas for the tasks that I also have a difficult time trying to stay on the subject. However, this was at the beginning of my high school years as I went grade to grade I learned how to follow the tasks and made life easier and I got better grades by doing the tasks. One task that I would follow was the rough draft the reasoning for this is because no matter how bad or good it was the teacher would always write notes which would help me structure it up correctly.

In my high school English class if we were writing an essay there were only three things we would do from the writing process and that would be planning, drafting, and the final. Now with the draft teachers would never have our peers read our rough drafts it was always our teacher. When they read they would read our rough drafts they would leave very detailed notes so that way our finals would meet their expectations. On the other hand in this course, they are challenging us more and making sure we know each step of the writing process they do so by teaching us about it and making us use each step in the essays we do.

Now that I have learned what the writing process is and how important it is when writing essays or even writing letters to whomever. I have realized that the writing process is generally used in our everyday living. For example, I was at work and I had to write my boss a note about something that had happened. The first thing I did was I wrote down important details that I needed to make sure were in the note. After writing the important details I asked a coworker to read what I had written down so as my coworker read it they made corrections to it. Then on a different piece of paper, I rewrote the note based on the corrections my coworker had made. Finally, I read the note myself to make sure it was ready for my boss to read it and it was. Using the writing process in that note I wrote to my boss helps make sure my boss understands what had happened while I was working since she was not there to see what had happened.
